The Role

Physical Metals Accountant – Product Control (VP Level) – Growth company and amazing opportunity

Martis Search is representing a global, London-based Metals Trading company to hire a permanent "Fully-Qualified Physical Metals Accountant – Product Control (VP Level)."

The role reports into their “Financial Controller.” The role will initially be in their London office, where full on-the-job training is provided, and you will be a Physical Metals Accountant at VP Level, supporting London and global-based physical Metals Trading desks.

The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for the month-end closing process for each entity, production of the monthly management accounts, monthly balance sheet substantiation and review, monthly and quarterly performance reporting and analyses within their Metals Business.

In addition to operating within their core Finance function, there will also be significant exposure to the wider Finance and business departments, including Trading, Product Control, and Shipping within the company.

The role is based in their London office and supports mainly Physical Metal Traders, trading in Ferrous Metals such as Iron, Steel, Scrap Metal, among others. They trade with global institutional companies such as Manufacturers, Building Companies, Shipping companies, Investment Banks, Hedge Funds, and more, requiring large quantities of Metals for various purposes.

Our client is looking for a “Fully Qualified” Accountant (ACCA, or CIMA) with at least 5 years of Metals experience within Finance & Accounting, gained at a reputable Commodity trading house, Brokerage, or Investment Bank.

The role is on their trading floor, and the company has acquired small global Metals Trading companies, indicating a growing and successful business environment.

Currently, processes are manual, but the client plans to automate these processes in the future.

Metals and Scrap Metal experience is highly desirable. Experience with containerized Freight Shipments and dispute claims negotiations is also advantageous.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for month-end close processing and reporting for each entity within the Recycled Metals Business, including general ledger administration, P&L and balance sheet closing, journal entries, and management reporting.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet substantiation with appropriate supporting information for review by the Financial Director or Financial Controller.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Front Office and other control areas, including Risk, Treasury, FP&A, Tax, and Operations, to gain a commercial understanding of the business and operational processes.
  • Improve and automate processes by understanding current manual/semi-automated processes, designing automated solutions, and collaborating with technology teams.
  • Contribute to the business’s cash flow forecasting and communicate funding requirements with Group Treasury and stakeholders.
  • Support Accounts Payable and Receivable activities, including verifying and processing payments.
  • Ensure all financial control activities are documented and compliant with Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) requirements.
  • Assist in internal and external audit activities.
