Job summary

Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Phlebotomy Team Leader to guide the phlebotomy service across wards, A&E, paediatric clinics and outpatient settings. You will lead a proactive team, promote high standards of care and oversee daily operations with a focus on patient experience.

The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and a hands-on approach to training, competency revalidation and service development within a 7-days-a-week service.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, supervision and operational management of the Phlebotomy team.
• Daily management of in-patient and out-patient phlebotomy services; ensure quality and patient experience.
• Ensure staff are trained and regularly competency revalidated; handle performance management where needed.
• Contribute to staff governance such as recruitment, appraisal and attendance management.
• Adhere to Trust policies and monitor service performance to meet user needs.

Job description

Applications are invited for the post of Phlebotomy Team Leader at Dorset County Hospital. Although Phlebotomy experience would be most welcome we are ideally looking for an experienced and enthusiastic team leader with experience of managing a team/s.

You will lead our forward thinking, friendly, pro‑active team providing a high quality and compassionate service to our patients across the varying clinical arenas within the Trust.

We are looking for a self‑motivated, hardworking individual with good manual dexterity, comfortable with leading by example, a 'can do' approach to their work, excellent communication and listening skills, comfortable with using their initiative and desire to support, develop and lead our Phlebotomy service.

The post will provide Phlebotomy team leadership and support to the wards, the A & E Department , Paediatric clinics and outpatients clinics at both South Walks House and Weymouth Hospital.

The service is a seven day a week service and operates 365 days per year. Staff are rostered for weekends and bank holidays.

Experience With Training And Competency Compliance Is Ideally Required.

To facilitate and oversee a high quality and efficient Phlebotomy service to the Trust.

• To provide leadership, supervision and operational management of the Phlebotomy team.
• To daily manage the in-patient and out-patient Phlebotomy service. Ensuring the quality of the service and working to enhance patient experience of the service. To ensure the Phlebotomists are appropriately trained, subject to regular competency revalidation and where necessary performance managed.
• To participate in staff governance procedures such as staff recruitment, appraisal and attendance management.
• To adhere to the Trust policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Monitor the performance of the service and ensure it meets the needs of the users and patients.
• To develop the service as required in conjunction with the Care Group Service Manager.
• To ensure that i) a robust relationship of trust and understanding with patients and other groups and ii) a good public image and perception of the Phlebotomy service is always maintained.
