Overview

We are looking to employ, for a secondment/fixed term of 52 weeks/12 months, a part time Phlebotomist post of 25 hours a week, to cover Maternity Leave. The post will require some weekend and bank holiday working and may on occasion require working at other ESHT sites. The post will provide a phlebotomy service to the hospital wards seven days a week and busy outpatient clinics on weekdays, as well as a new Community Diagnostic Center unit in Bexhill.

We are looking for applicants with phlebotomy experience and are competent in the use of the Vacuette system, but training will be provided to candidates with the right qualities to join this busy team. The successful candidate will be required to complete a probationary period during which they will undertake a competency assessment supported by the team leader.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples from patients in accordance with venepuncture, infection control and laboratory policies and procedures.
• Collect samples within the hospital and the Phlebotomy Clinic to achieve efficient and effective patient care and resource management.
• Complete and pass an in-house venepuncture competency programme.
• Greet patients, take telephone bookings and enter details on the department’s computer when a receptionist is not available.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience with competence in using the Vacuette system; training provided for candidates with the right qualities.
• Ability to work some weekends and bank holidays; may be required to work at other ESHT sites.
• Completion of probationary period with competency assessment
• Ability to communicate politely and diplomatically with medical staff and patients and to provide advice on the process of obtaining samples within Phlebotomy.
