We are looking to welcome a phlebotomist to join our dynamicand supportive team at Humberstone Medical Centre. This vacancy is for 15 to 24 hoursper week. We welcomeapplicants with or without GP surgery experience. If you have the right skillsand qualities, we can provide on-going support to develop professionally.
Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of thepractice multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be responsible forperforming venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitledpatient population.
In addition, the Phlebotomistwill be expected to support the nursing team on an as required basis.

We are a large and friendly team including 5 GP Partners, 3Salaried Drs, 2 Pharmacists, 1 Pharmacy technician ,3 Nurses, 2 HCAs, an FCP, aSocial Prescriber, care coordinators and administrators.
We are a teaching practice and take GP Registrars andMedical students on rotation.
We are part of Salutem Primary Care Network and take a leadrole in it with the previous and current Clinical Director both being partnersin the practice. Salutem PCN has an excellent reputation for collaborativeworking in multiple projects and seeking to maintain high standards of patientcare in all 5 practices within it.

The following are the core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels
Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT system
The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
Maintaining an effective liaison with the NHS Trust laboratory staff
Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters.
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Phlebotomist may be requested to:
Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead
Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
Support and participate in shared learning within the practice
Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
