Job summary

University of Exeter invites applications for a PhD studentship exploring why certain U12-intron genes drive autoimmune diabetes. The project blends computational analysis of single-cell and patient data with experimental validation in B cells, T cells and beta cells.

You will learn to integrate multi-omics data and contribute to new drug target insights. Colleagues across data science, genetics, and immunology will train you in both in silico work (R/Python, single-cell data) and wet-lab

Qualifications

  • Ideal candidate from biological, biomedical, computational, mathematical or data science backgrounds.
  • Full training will be provided in unfamiliar areas.
  • Experience with single-cell analysis is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritise candidate genes by analysis of public and patient data.
  • Measure intron retention in patient-derived cells using established assays.
  • Perform knockdown/knockout of 3–5 high-priority genes in immune cell models.
  • Publish findings and contribute to thesis preparation.

Skills

Computational analysis
R/Python
Single-cell RNA-seq
Data interpretation

Education

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field

Tools
