Job summary

ORFeus doctoral network invites applications for a full-time MSCA-funded doctoral position in the United Kingdom. The project investigates how lncRNAs are translated, combining TCP-Seq and long-read direct-RNA-Seq in SH-SY5Y cells, supported by a networked team across ORFeus and partner projects.

You will join a supervisory team at the University of Leeds and undertake a three-month secondment with Oxford Nanopore Technologies, with a PhD enrollment leading to a doctoral degree.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on laboratory experience in molecular and RNA biology, e.g. mammalian cell culture, cloning and reporter assays, or RNA sequencing methods.
  • Desirable: experience with translation assays, next-generation or long-read sequencing, basic bioinformatics or scripting (R or Python).
  • Interest in microproteins and the dark proteome; good written and spoken English; IELTS/TOEFL acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform TCP-Seq and map ribosome scanning during neuronal differentiation.
  • Identify transcript features controlling ribosome recruitment using long-read direct-RNA-Seq and mutation analyses.
  • Validate regulatory factors and motifs; compile a genome-wide map of ribosome scanning across lncRNAs.
  • Collaborate across the ORFeus network and contribute to the project report and models.
