Job summary

The Francis Crick Institute in London invites applications for a PhD project exploring how CDKs regulate the cell cycle using fission yeast as a model.

The project will investigate CDK activity rise during S-phase and mitosis, nuclear localization, and chromatin’s role in CDK regulation. Training across genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, proteomics and advanced microscopy will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate how CDK acts as the cell cycle pacemaker and how CDK activity rises during the cell cycle to trigger S-phase and mitosis.
  • Examine coordination with cell growth and which substrates are phosphorylated and when during the cycle.
  • Focus on CDK activity within the nucleus and chromatin as a platform for CDK regulation and future investigations.
  • Provide training across genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, proteomics, phosphoproteomics and advanced microscopy.
