Job summary

Coventry University invites applications for a full-time PhD studentship on fast multi-wavelength variability of accreting compact objects, conducted within the Coventry Centre for Doctoral Training in AI (C-CDT AI).

The project uses simultaneous multiwavelength observations from XMM-Newton, NICER, HiPERCAM, ULTRACAM and other facilities to explore jets and inner accretion flows in black holes and neutron stars, with time-series and Fourier analysis to constrain physical parameters.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a 2:1 first degree in astronomy/astrophysics or physics with a strong project component.
  • English language proficiency: IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each component.

Responsibilities

  • Work with simultaneous multiwavelength observations from multiple facilities.
  • Apply time-series and Fourier-domain analyses to extract physical information.
  • Model observed variability to constrain jet speed and inner disc properties.
