Job summary

The University of Liverpool invites applications for a Doctoral Network PhD position in Condensed Matter Physics. The project combines X-ray characterisation with in-situ electrochemical and Raman spectroscopy on metal/oxide electrocatalytic systems, to link intermediates to activity and stability under varied pH and ion conditions.

You will develop operando setups, work in an international team, and enroll in a PhD program, with opportunities for international secondments and training under

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Physics, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or related field.
  • Experience in electrochemical experiments and materials characterization.
  • Excellent English oral and written communication.
  • Ability to work in an international, multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of X-ray diffraction or spectroscopy is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Develop in-situ/operando SXRD and spectroscopic setups.
  • Study surface stability and degradation of electrodes under operando conditions.
  • Correlate intermediates and surface functionalisation with activity and stability.
  • Collaborate within an international, multidisciplinary team.
