Job summary

The University of Manchester invites applications for a research position in the condensed matter physics group, Department of Physics & Astronomy. The project focuses on graphene and other 2D materials, exploring catalytic and ion-transport properties with support from EPSRC and international funders.

The post is available from 1 October for 24 months, with emphasis on device fabrication and precision measurements.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of electrochemistry, materials science, condensed matter physics, chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Ability to analyse experimental data and develop scientific interpretations.
  • Ability to communicate research findings clearly through written and oral communication.
  • Experience conducting experimental research in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related field.
  • PhD (or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related discipline, or evidence that the PhD thesis has been submitted before taking up the role.

Responsibilities

  • Developing new approaches to control catalytic and ion-transport processes in two-dimensional crystal–ionic interfaces.
  • Designing and performing electrochemical experiments to investigate interfacial charge transfer and chemical reactivity.
  • Fabricating and characterising nanoscale devices based on emerging two-dimensional materials.
  • Applying precision electrical measurements to understand the relationship between electric fields, charge transport, and chemical processes.
  • Collaborating with researchers across physics, chemistry, and materials science to advance project goals.
