Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join the medicines management team in East Kilbride on a permanent basis. You will perform pharmaceutical technical tasks, dispensing prescriptions, including inpatients and clinical trials, and carry out final accuracy checks to ensure safe, effective care.

Rotational duties involve supplying controlled drugs to wards, reconciling patient medicines, and contributing to audits.

Qualifications

• Diploma/SQA National Certificate in Pharmacy Services or equivalent required.
• Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
• Revalidation and ongoing professional development required.

Responsibilities

• To dispense prescriptions, including in-patient, out-patient, controlled drugs, clinical trials and clozapine in accordance with SOPs.
• To carry out final accuracy checks on prescriptions dispensed by others.
• To undertake the final accuracy check of prescriptions/Indents that have been dispensed by others.
• To supply controlled drugs to wards and departments and maintain accurate records and conduct regular audits.
• To retrieve, reconcile and record information about a patient’s medicines.
• To assess patients’ medicines at bedside and check suitability for the Patient’s Own Drug scheme.
