Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy team and support hospital services across our sites. You will dispense prescriptions, perform final accuracy checks, and manage controlled drugs in line with SOPs.

You will retrieve, reconcile and record patient medicines, assess bedside medicines for the Patient’s Own Drug scheme, and maintain accurate records while upholding high quality pharmaceutical care.

Qualifications

  • Diploma/SQA National Certificate in Pharmacy Services or equivalent to enable registration as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Undertake revalidation required by General Pharmaceutical Council and maintain a portfolio of personal and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • To dispense prescriptions, including in-patient, out-patient, controlled drug, clinical trials and clozapine prescription in accordance with SOPs as directed by the Senior Pharmacy Technician.
  • To carry out final accuracy checks on prescriptions dispensed by others.
  • To undertake the final accuracy check of prescriptions/Indents that have been dispensed by others
  • To supply controlled drugs to wards and departments throughout NHS Lanarkshire and provide accurate record keeping of controlled drugs kept in the pharmacy including supplies to wards and departments, orders received into the pharmacy and perform regular audits of the accuracy of computer and paper records.
  • To retrieve, reconcile and record information about an individual's medicines
  • To assess patients’ medicines at bedside and check suitability for use in the operation of the Patient’s Own Drug scheme.

The Role

To undertake pharmaceutical technical tasks within a designated area, on a rotational basis, using Standard Operating Procedures laid down by the relevant Senior Pharmacy Technician to maintain a high quality pharmaceutical service to NHS Lanarkshire hospitals.
