Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to over 1.15 million people, and 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

This is a fixed-term position for 9 months, working 28.12 hours per week (pro-rata salary). The shift pattern is 9-5 Monday–Friday, including weekend work, public holidays, and extended hours rota.

The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital/Royal Hospital for Children is a major acute hospital in the UK, serving the West of Scotland and beyond.

We seek a qualified, motivated, and proactive Pharmacy Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will develop clinical skills, provide patient-focused pharmaceutical care, and be involved in medication histories, patient education, and streamlining admission/discharge processes. You will work with multidisciplinary teams, liaise with GPs and community pharmacies, and contribute to developing technical and extended pharmacy roles.

You will rotate through near-patient dispensing areas in both adult and children’s hospitals, support dispensary and satellite services, and participate in training staff. Training for this role will be provided, with opportunities to advance technical practice.

Essential qualifications include an NC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent, SVQ level 3 or equivalent, registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council, and an accredited Final Accuracy Checking Qualification such as SQA PDCT, NPA, Buttercups, or Lloyds. Good communication, leadership, and organizational skills are required.

This role involves weekend, extended hours, and public holiday work. Days are negotiable at interview.

For more information or an informal discussion, contact Lindsay Cassidy, David Hughes, Hannah MacKenzie, or Wendy Connell at 0141 452 2971.

Applications may close early due to high response. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde values diversity and supports applications from all communities, including the Armed Forces. All responses must be your own work, with no AI assistance, to be eligible.
