Job summary

West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join Botesdale Health Centre on a part-time basis (24 hours per week). The successful candidate will work with the clinical and dispensary teams, handle medication queries and contribute to patient-safety audits and public health programmes.

The role requires GPhC registration and a Diploma Level 3 in pharmacy services, with experience in community pharmacy or primary care.

Qualifications

• Registered pharmacy technician with the GPhC.
• Diploma Level 3 in pharmacy services or equivalent.
• Strong experience in either a community pharmacy or a primary care setting.
• Confident in analysing and presenting information to health professionals.

Responsibilities

• Support medication reviews and medicines reconciliation for new care home patients.
• Support antimicrobial stewardship initiatives to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing.
• Assist in conducting prescribing audits, responding to national safety alerts (e.g., MHRA), and implementing QOF and prescribing incentive schemes.
• Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GP practices, care homes and other primary care settings.
• Work with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure efficient medicines optimisation, including ordering and return processes and reducing wastage.
• Support practice dispensary team in sorting and streaming general prescription requests, enabling GPs to review more clinically complex requests.
• Support medicines optimisation systems with a range of services.

About the Role

Botesdale Health Centre are looking for a professional, conscientious and highly effective Pharmacy Technician to join our friendly team on a part-time basis for 24 hours per week.

Working within their professional boundaries, the successful applicant will work alongside the clinical and dispensary team within the practice and the wider Blackbourne PCN. They will support the practice clinical teams with queries regarding medication from patients, complete audits regarding patient safety in the prescribing of medication and supports public health and screening programmes including immunisations and vaccination programmes whilst participating in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and reduce health inequalities.

Other duties will include

• Support medication reviews and medicines reconciliation for new care home patients.
• Support initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing.
• Assist in conducting prescribing audits, responding to national safety alerts (e.g., MHRA), and implementing Quality Outcomes Framework (QOF) and prescribing incentive schemes.

This will be achieved through undertaking clinical audits (e.g., use of antibiotics), supporting quality improvement measures and contributing to the Quality and Outcomes Framework and enhanced services.
• Work with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure efficient medicines optimisation, including implementing efficient ordering and return processes, and reducing wastage.

About the Candidate

To be considered for this position, the successful candidate will have the following:

• Registered pharmacy technician with the GPhC
• Diploma Level 3 in pharmacy services,or equivalent
• Strong experience in either a community pharmacy or a primary care setting
• Confident in analysing and presenting information to health professionals

We are a rural GMS 10,000 patient surgery with 4 Partners, 5 salaried GPs and a fantastic clinical and practice team with an on-site dispensary.
