Job summary

HCRG Care Group is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join the Medicines Optimisation Team. The role is based at Swindon Intermediate Care Centre and supports inpatient units across BaNES, Swindon and Wiltshire, contributing to safe, effective, patient-centered pharmacy services.

You will work with pharmacists, nurses and clinicians to optimise prescribing, reduce medicines waste and support budget management, while following national and local policies and maintaining high professional standards.

Qualifications

• Registered Pharmacy Technician holding an NVQ Level 3 or other relevant qualification.
• Experience in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy.
• Ability to work autonomously within a wider multidisciplinary team.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Support ward-based medicines management service across inpatient units.
• Undertake medicines reconciliation and medication reviews; manage supplies.
• Provide medicines advice to patients and staff; respond to queries.
• Contribute to stock management, audits, and medicines optimisation initiatives.
• Support discharge planning and patient self-administration programmes.

Job Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our Medicines Optimisation Team supporting the inpatient units across Bath and North East Somerset (BaNES), Swindon and Wiltshire. Based at Swindon Intermediate Care Centre, you will play a vital role in delivering a safe, effective, and patient‑centred pharmacy service that supports outstanding patient outcomes.

This is an excellent opportunity for a registered Pharmacy Technician looking to develop their clinical and ward‑based experience within a supportive multidisciplinary environment.

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will support the provision of an efficient and comprehensive ward‑based pharmaceutical service across our inpatient units. Working closely with pharmacists, nurses, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals, you will contribute to the safe and effective use of medicines while ensuring compliance with national and local medicines optimisation strategies. You will be instrumental in supporting the delivery of high‑quality pharmacy services, helping to optimise prescribing practices, reduce medicines waste, and support the effective management of medication budgets. The successful candidate will work independently within agreed guidelines and priorities while contributing to medicines management projects and service improvement initiatives.

Main Responsibilities

• As a Pharmacy Technician, you will support the delivery of a safe, effective, and high‑quality ward‑based medicines management service across our inpatient units.
• Working closely with pharmacists, clinicians, nurses, and patients, you will undertake medicines reconciliation and medication reviews, support the management of medicine supplies, and help ensure the safe and efficient use of medicines.
• You will provide medicines advice and support to patients and healthcare professionals, respond to medication queries, and work collaboratively with community pharmacies to support seamless discharge planning.
• You will also contribute to stock management, Controlled Drug audits, medicines optimisation initiatives, and reducing medicines waste while ensuring compliance with relevant policies and legislation.
• Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will play an important role in improving patient outcomes through service development, quality improvement projects, and supporting patient self‑administration programmes to promote independence and safe discharge.

The Ideal Candidate

• EssentialRegistered Qualified Pharmacy Technician holding an NVQ Level 3 or other relevant qualification.
• Experience in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a wider multidisciplinary team
• Attention to detail, able to work accurately, identifying errors
• Knowledge and understanding of pharmacy law and ethics and current legislation
• Have a planned and organised approach with an ability to prioritise their own workload to meet strict deadlines.
• Clean driving licence and access to a vehicle for daily use

• Understands the changing roles of the Pharmacy Technician and what registration involves.
