Job summary

A healthcare provider in the region seeks a Pharmacy Technician to support the clinical pharmacy team. The successful candidate will maximize safe, cost-effective prescribing, aid in patient care, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams. Job description

The post holder will be employed by the Primary Care Network and play an important role in thedesignated practice pharmacy team. They will compliment the work of clinicalpharmacists, community pharmacists and other members of the PCNmulti-disciplinary team. While Pharmacy Technicians do not prescribe nor makeclinical decisions, they do work under supervision to ensure the effective andefficient use of medicines. In the PCN, their core responsibilities coverclinical, technical, and administrative roles.

The role supports Kingsthorpe Medical Centre and we will consider applicants who wish to be based on site, work remotely or take a hybrid approach.

Main duties of the job

Thepurpose of the role is to maximise safe, cost-effective, prescribing to improvethe quality of patient care. The post-holder will help patients get the bestfrom their medicines, use existing protocols to maximise cost-effectivepreparations, improve repeat prescribing processes (including use of electronicrepeat dispensing and online ordering), minimising clinical risk and reducingavoidable wasted medicines. As well, the post-holder will develop and encouragea positive culture of medicines optimisation principles to assist the PCN inachieving local and national medicines-related objectives.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Pharmacy in General Practice is part of an exciting programme of transformation to develop a new model of care across the Primary Care Network. This model is supported by national policy including the Five Year Forward View and GP Forward View to better utilise the role of pharmacy professionals within the wider healthcare team. Overarching goals are to help keep patients safe and well out of hospital and reduce the demands on general practice regards medicine use.

Experience
  • Understanding of dispensary processes, controlled drugs legislation, and medication storage.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy law, ethics, and current legislation.
  • Understanding of national policies impacting medicine management.
  • Knowledge of medication optimization principles and rational prescribing.
  • Familiarity with primary care prescribing.
