Job description

Job summary

37.5 hours

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer - Dispenser, to join the dedicated team delivering dispensing and ward services from the Pharmacy department.

You will be based on rotation in the dispensary at The James Cook University Hospital (JCUH), participating in dispensing services under the management of the Dispensary Manager and working in one of our clinical teams on the wards under pharmacy ward leads.

Main duties of the job:

  1. Dispensing a wide variety of prescription types, including controlled drugs, prescription-only medicines, and unlicensed drugs for inpatients of JCUH and community hospitals.
  2. Having experience of dispensing to L2 pharmacy services standards, broad drug knowledge, and familiarity with pharmacy law and professional practice from hospital or community settings.
  3. Working towards the L2 dispensing certificate, which should be completed by the end of 2024.
  4. Working full-time hours (08:30-17:00, Monday to Friday), including participation in dispensary and extended/out-of-hours rotas, such as:
  • Weekend work once every 5 weeks (09:00-17:00) Saturday and Sunday, with a full weekday off the following week.
  • Late night work once every 2 weeks (09:00-17:30) instead of 08:30-17:00.
  • Contributing to the bank holiday working rota.

The pharmacy department at JCUH employs over 200 staff, including clinical pharmacists, technicians, and support staff, providing medicines management, dispensing, and logistics services across the hospital and community hospitals. Qualifications (Essential):
