Job summary

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a committed Pharmacy aseptic compounding assistant for its busy aseptic unit in London. The role involves compiling chemotherapy and trial products in isolators or laminar flow cabinets and supporting preparation for adults across the trust.

You will participate in cleaning, labeling and stock control, with extensive training provided to enable professional aseptic practice. A supportive team and NHS benefits accompany the role.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs in Maths, English and Science (A-C).
  • Experience or willingness to learn aseptic compounding.
  • Able to handle IV cytotoxics safely.
  • Good numeracy and literacy; capable with basic computer systems.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in cleaning and preparation of the Aseptic Unit and equipment for sterile product compounding.
  • Undertake preparation, labelling and packaging of sterile products.
  • Ensure stock transactions are recorded on the pharmacy computer system; maintain stock accuracy.
  • Assist with answering calls and escalating as needed.
  • Receive extensive in-house training and accreditation in aseptic practices.

Job description

We are looking for a committed and hardworking Pharmacy aseptic compounding assistant to work in our aseptic unit. Do you want to be part of a fantastic team making a real difference to people's lives? Do you have a good working knowledge of aseptic services or are you willing to learn. Our busy units make chemotherapy and other aseptic products to support patients across North West London and beyond. Through our support for numerous clinical trials, we also are at the cutting edge of developing treatments for the future. In conjunction with our other team members you will ensure that the aseptic service provided to chemotherapy and Clinical Trial patients across the trust is to a high standard. This will include compounding of chemotherapy and Clinical Trials in isolators and/or Laminar Air Flow cabinets. The post is cross site and will be based at Hammersmith or Charing Cross site and will require the post holder to organise and participate in the preparation of chemotherapy, clinical trials and parenteral nutrition for adults.

  • To participate in the cleaning and preparation of the Aseptic Unit and its equipment and supplies ready for the compounding of sterile products in accordance with the principals of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  • To undertake the compounding of sterile products and their labelling and packaging.
  • To help ensure that service provision is flexible and responsive to clients/patient's needs.
  • To ensure that all stock transactions are appropriately recorded on the pharmacy computer system and to help ensure the aseptic unit stock holdings are accurate and appropriate.
  • To answer the telephone, assess the significance of the caller/content, then take appropriate actions/ refer to senior staff.

    Good secondary education GCSEs, Math, English, Science Grades A-C
  • Literate and Numerate, Experience of handling IV cytotoxics
