Job summary

Mitie in Worthing, West Sussex, is seeking an experienced Environment, Health & Safety Specialist for a major pharmaceutical manufacturing site. This predominantly site-based role offers exposure to senior stakeholders and the chance to influence site-wide safety performance.

You will lead construction safety, manage contractor safety, oversee environmental compliance and RAMS reviews, and support capital projects through audits, investigations and training across the site.

Qualifications

• Experience in regulated or high-hazard manufacturing environments.
• Strong knowledge of contractor management, CDM, construction and demolition safety practices.
• Experience supporting engineering, maintenance, utilities, reliability or capital projects.
• Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
• Chartered status within a relevant discipline.
• NEBOSH qualification or equivalent in Health & Safety, Construction Safety or Environmental Management.
• Degree qualification in Engineering, Science, Environmental, Health & Safety or a related discipline.
• Experience supporting Net Zero, sustainability or environmental compliance programmes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the site's Construction Safety programme across multiple projects.
• Provide guidance on construction, demolition, contractor safety, permits to work, and risk management.
• Support environmental compliance activities including energy, water, waste, wastewater and sustainability initiatives.
• Conduct audits, inspections and compliance reviews across EHS programmes.
• Partner with engineering, operations and project teams to ensure safe delivery of capital projects.
• Reviewing and approving RAMS, Construction Phase Plans and associated project documentation.
• Supporting incident investigations, corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Building EHS capability through coaching, training and engagement with employees and contractors.
• Acting as a key point of contact for regulators, auditors and senior site stakeholders.
