Job summary

Mitie Cleaning & Hygiene Services in Worthing, West Sussex, is seeking an Environment, Health & Safety Specialist on a major pharmaceutical site. You will lead construction safety across several projects, influence site-wide safety performance and support capital investment and infrastructure initiatives.

Reporting to the EHS Director, you will manage RAMS reviews, permits to work, incident investigations and contractor management, while coaching teams to raise EHS capability and ensure

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH qualification or equivalent in Health & Safety, Construction Safety or Environmental Management.
  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Science, Environmental, Health & Safety or a related discipline.
  • Experience in regulated manufacturing environments (pharmaceutical, FMCG, utilities, energy or other high-risk industries).
  • Strong knowledge of contractor management, CDM, construction and demolition safety practices.
  • Experience supporting engineering, maintenance, utilities, reliability or capital project teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Ability to lead audits, investigations and compliance programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the site's Construction Safety programme across multiple projects.
  • Provide expert guidance on construction, demolition, contractor safety, permits to work, and risk management.
  • Support environmental compliance activities including energy, water, waste, wastewater and sustainability initiatives.
  • Conduct audits, inspections and compliance reviews across EHS programmes.
  • Partner with engineering, operations and project teams to ensure safe delivery of capital projects.
  • Review and approve RAMS, Construction Phase Plans and associated project documentation.
  • Support incident investigations, corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Build EHS capability through coaching, training and engagement with employees and contractors.
  • Act as a key point of contact for regulators, auditors and senior site stakeholders.

Please note: This is a predominantly site-based role located in Worthing, West Sussex.

Are you an experienced EHS professional looking for an opportunity to make a real impact within a highly regulated manufacturing environment?

We're recruiting for an Environment, Health & Safety Specialist to join a specialist EHS team on a major pharmaceutical manufacturing site in Worthing. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with senior stakeholders, influence site-wide safety performance, and play a key role in supporting significant capital investment and infrastructure projects.

This is a highly visible position reporting into the site's EHS Director, with a particular focus on Construction Safety, Demolition Activities, Environmental Compliance, and Contractor Management.

What You'll Be Doing

What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from candidates who bring a strong combination of environmental, health & safety and construction safety expertise gained within a regulated or high-hazard environment.

You Should Have
  • NEBOSH qualification or equivalent in Health & Safety, Construction Safety or Environmental Management.
  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Science, Environmental, Health & Safety or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within manufacturing, process, pharmaceutical, FMCG, utilities, chemical, energy or other high-risk industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of contractor management, CDM, construction and demolition safety practices.
  • Experience supporting engineering, maintenance, utilities, reliability or capital project teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • The ability to lead audits, investigations and compliance programmes.
Desirable
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing experience.
  • Chartered status within a relevant discipline.
  • Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) qualification.
  • Experience supporting Net Zero, sustainability or environmental compliance programmes.
