Job summary

GSK Barnard Castle is seeking an Automation Engineer to provide technical expertise for automation and control systems across the site. You will support the team, drive strategic decisions, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives in a regulated manufacturing environment.

The role requires hands-on experience with SCADA/PLC/HMI, knowledge of Siemens equipment, and strong collaboration with cross-functional teams to uphold engineering standards and GxP regulations.

Qualifications

• Relevant engineering qualification (eg; Recognised Apprenticeship in Electrical/Instrumentation/Controls Engineering or Engineering degree).
• Experience in Pharmaceutical or highly regulated manufacturing environments is preferred.
• Technical and operational knowledge of Automation systems (SCADA, PLC, HMI, Servo, Vision, Field Instrumentation) for production equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise on advanced automated manufacturing/packaging processes and sign off automation elements of capital projects as system owner.
• Collaborate with cross-functional groups to tackle complex technical challenges and improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with OT Security Standards and build cybersecurity awareness within engineering/production teams.
• Review obsolescence risks and drive facility improvements with Capital Projects.
• Maintain and manage the site asset register for automation equipment.
• Liaise with central teams to develop new automation technologies and review supplier performance.
• Support engineering technicians with complex equipment failures, CAPA implementation and improvements.
• Act as the point of contact for production automation support with flexible hours.
