Job summary

Petrolab Limited in Redruth, Cornwall, is seeking a Mineralogist on a maternity cover basis with strong potential for permanent employment. You will lead petrographic and mineralogical projects, perform routine and advanced tests, and operate SEM/ automated mineralogy and optical microscopes.

The role focuses on materials including concrete, aggregate, rock core, and ore samples in accordance with UK/EU/ASTM standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in geological analysis of natural and man-made construction materials.
• Advanced petrographic analysis using a petrographic microscope (reflected light analysis desirable).
• A degree (or higher) in a relevant geological or engineering discipline with applied industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage and deliver commercial petrographic and mineralogical projects from receipt to final reporting with minimal supervision.
• Perform high-level optical petrography (transmitted and reflected light) and operate SEM/ automated mineralogy systems.
• Ensure all analytical work adheres to internal procedures and international standards (UK, EU, ASTM).
• Write clear, dependable technical reports providing actionable insights for clients.
