Job summary

Petrolab Limited in Redruth, Cornwall, is seeking a Junior Mineralogist / Geomaterials Scientist to join our growing geological consultancy. You will contribute to petrological and mineralogical projects with local, national and international reach.

The role involves sample logistics, routine mineralogical and petrographic testing, SEM operation, and analysis of concrete, aggregate, stone and ore. A geology degree and microscopy experience are required; remote work is limited, and UK work rights

Qualifications

• A degree in a geological or engineering discipline, or equivalent work experience.
• University-level training in petrography and optical mineralogy (reflected light analysis skills desirable).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Sample logistics: recording and preparing samples for testing.
• Laboratory testing: routine mineralogical, petrographic and mundic tests.
• Instrumentation: operate optical/polarising microscopes, SEM, and related software.
• Material analysis: analyse concrete, aggregate, stone, rock core and ore samples.
• Standards compliance: follow in-house, UK, European and American standards.
• Skill development: develop expertise in macroscopic and microscopic identification.
