An opportunity has arisen within the Commercial services team for a full-time permanent Pest Control Officer in Blackpool.

About the company

Our client is a wholly owned company of the Council, providing Environmental Operations which include Waste collection, Street cleaning, grounds and Park maintenance.

About the role

As Pest Control Officer, you will be responsible for the necessary treatments for the control of insects, mammals and birds through reactive requests from the public or through pest control contracts with commercial or business clients.

About the responsibilities

The purpose of the Pest Control Officer role is to provide plan and implement pest control services in accordance with the statutory requirements and duties include :

  • Carrying out and implementing pest control work including inspections, surveys and treatments to premises, persons and the general environment in accordance with the policy and guidelines of the Department
  • Maintaining and developing technical skills and knowledge
  • Providing estimates for work, managing any Service Level agreements and Commercial contacts.
  • Advising officers of the Council, Elected Members and the public, on proofing and any other measures to control infestations
  • Being responsible for the safe storage, mixing and application of all pest control materials including proper implementation of good Health and Safety practices
  • Participating in and assisting the Services Manager in the commercial activities of the Pest Control section including estimation and preparation of commercial contracts and in establishing a new business and new contracts
  • Receiving and processing income associated with the activities of the Section
  • Ensuring that the highest standard of customer care is maintained
  • Undertaking such administrative duties as may be required
About you

To be successful for this challenging but rewarding opportunity of Pest Control Officer, you will have / be :

  • Experience in carrying out a similar role within a pest control environment
  • An enthusiastic character with a positive approach to increasing commercial and treatments contacts
  • Able to plan and organise a flexible and varied workload within the parameters set by the service manager
  • Good IT ability working with a variety of systems, particularly spreadsheets and databases
  • Excellent communication skills, which offer confidence and informative knowledge to a wide-ranging audience, which is necessary to ensure business growth and company reputation
Essential skills
  • Full UK driving license
  • Sufficient literacy and numeracy to undertake the tasks and duties of the role
  • Knowledge of the use of pesticides, general insects and mammals and waste management
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and to strict deadlines
  • Able to work with and deal with animals and pests dead or alive
  • Good communication skills that can be persuasive, information and engaging with a wide range of audience.
  • To be physically fit and able and capable of climbing ladders
About the hours & rewards

In the role of Pest Control Officer, you will work Monday to Friday 39 hours per week and there is a salary on offer of £25,837 per annum.
