About the Role

A young woman with cerebral palsy living in Saltcoats, Ayrshire is seeking a compassionate, reliable, proactive female Personal Assistant who is also a driver to support her with all aspects of daily living. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life and help promote independence in a home and community setting.

She uses a wheelchair and requires assistance with moving and handling, including help with personal care such as toileting, dressing, and general mobility. Therefore, this role may not be suitable for individuals with a pre-existing medical condition that would prevent them from performing physical care tasks.

The support worker will also assist with spelling, typing, and written communication tasks due to the employer’s needs. The role is primarily social support but includes personal care and transport to and from a variety of activities and appointments.

The Employer is actively involved in volunteering roles including:

  • SHOUT, a mental health charity
  • Girlguiding (including attending camps – some occasional weekend work may be required)
  • Centre Stage (as a class leader)

She also enjoys spending time with dogs and young children, so a fondness for both is important.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting with personal care, including washing, dressing, toileting
  • Preparing meals and assisting with feeding if required
  • Supporting with household tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and tidying
  • Helping with mobility and safe movement around the home (manual handling involved)
  • Supporting with medication routines (training provided if needed)
  • Typing and spelling assistance
  • Driving to and from appointments and social or voluntary activities (including doctor and hair appointments)
  • Offering companionship and emotional support
  • Occasional support on weekend trips or camps (as part of Girlguiding)
About You
  • Female (due to occupational requirement)
  • Kind, patient, and respectful
  • Good communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
  • Physically able to assist with moving and handling
  • Comfortable around dogs and young children
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle preferred
  • Previous experience in care is welcome but not essential – the right attitude is most important
  • Must be willing to undergo a PVG check (Protecting Vulnerable Groups)
What We Offer
  • £13.73 per hour
  • Friendly and supportive working environment
  • Opportunity to gain experience in person-centred care
  • Training provided as required
  • 6‑month trial period

Two up-to-date reference contacts are required (one must be from a present or previous employer). A new PVG enhanced disclosure is required prior to appointment (disclosure cost to be met by the employer).

Note: CCTV cameras are in place in the person’s bedroom (placed by them and with their consent, for safety and reassurance). Recordings are securely stored and will only be accessed if there is a concern or incident. No recording takes place in bathrooms or bedrooms. By accepting this role, you confirm you have been informed and consent to this monitoring.
