Job summary

Cheshire College South and West is seeking a Personal Development Tutor for the Chester Campus. The role is permanent and part-year, delivering group tutorials and inductions to help students develop belonging, resilience and employability skills.

You will support students aged 16–18, discuss pastoral matters with staff, and refer to specialist services when needed. DBS clearance is required; many staff benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification required.
• GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C or above (or equivalent).
• Excellent tutor, advisor or mentor skills.
• Ability to deliver group tutorials, including sensitive topics.
• Experience delivering to groups of 16–18 year olds.
• Knowledge of target setting and reviews.
• Empathy and sensitivity in student support.
• DBS check required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver group tutorial sessions covering Employability, British Values, Equality and Diversity and PREVENT.
• Induct students to the College and foster belonging and resilience.
• Refer students to specialist services as needed after discussions with managers/staff.
• Support learner participation through enrichment and learner voice activities.
• Support students' academic/personal progress and review against targets.
• Monitor attendance and address cohort issues using college systems.

Job description

Job Title: Personal Development Tutor (EL395)

Salary: £29,838 to £32,579 per annum, pro rata

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week, part year working (38 weeks per year).

Location: Chester Campus

A new opportunity has arisen for an inspirational person to join our College in the role of Personal Development Tutor at our Chester Campus.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver group tutorial sessions and activities to cover key personal development themes including Employability, British Values, Equality and Diversity and the PREVENT agenda;
• Conduct an effective personal induction for students to the College and develop both a sense of belonging and resilience to succeed;
• Meet with relevant managers and staff to discuss pastoral issues affecting any students giving concern and, where necessary, to refer students to more specialist services;
• Support learner participation in opportunities that develop skills and knowledge including enrichment and learner voice activities;
• Support students with academic/personal progress and review against targets on an individual basis in line with the College frequency standard. Insisting on high ambitions for all students; and
• Use dedicated systems to monitor attendance concerns with the cohort and proactively resolve issues.

Key Person Specification Requirements:

• Level 3 qualification;
• GCSEs C (4/5) in English and Maths (or equivalent);
• Excellent personal tutor, advisor or mentor skills;
• Excellent knowledge of tutorial themes.
• Ability to deliver effective group tutorial sessions, including those on more sensitive topics;
• Experience of delivery to groups of young people (16 to 18 years old)
• Good working knowledge of target setting and review methods;
• Ability to work with empathy and sensitivity; and
• Enhanced DBS check.
