Job summary

Independent Lives is seeking Personal Assistants to support a 22-year-old man with complex needs in a family home and community setting near Bexhill seafront. The role offers training and a chance to develop skills in care planning, documentation, and community activities.

We value a proactive, patient, and reliable team player who can work 2:1 with another assistant. A full UK driving licence and willingness to drive a wheelchair-accessible vehicle are important.

Job description

We are recruiting Personal Assistants to support a 22-year-old man with complex needs in a family home and community setting.

This is a fantastic opportunity to use your existing experience and skills, or to learn new ones.

Experience of supporting someone with PMLD is a real advantage, but isn't essential - what matters most is your attitude, willingness to learn and ability to get stuck in.

You’ll be supporting a charming young man in a great location near Bexhill seafront, as part of a supportive family and team.

Duties include:
  • - Medication prompting/administering
  • - Personal grooming
  • - Eating and drinking assistance
  • - Moving and handling
  • - Clinical tasks
  • - Other relevant duties as required
  • - Administration
  • - Housekeeping
  • - Transportation
  • - Dressing / undressing
  • - Bathroom assistance
  • - Working collaboratively with other members of the support team to provide consistent, person-centred support.
  • - Planning and supporting appropriate activities and opportunities, both at home and in the community.
  • - Supporting the smooth running of the family home during shifts, including keeping equipment and areas used for care clean, tidy and organised.
  • - Completing clear and accurate daily records and other required documentation.
  • - Following all care plans, risk assessments, policies and agreed ways of working.
  • - Attending required training and keeping knowledge and skills up to date.
  • - Communicating appropriately with the family and other professionals involved in the young man's care and support.
  • - Reporting any changes, concerns or incidents promptly.
  • - Supporting with reasonable additional duties associated with the role and the smooth running of the support package.
  • - Being willing to work additional shifts where possible to support the team during periods of annual leave or sickness.
  • - Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
  • - Reliable with good timekeeping
  • - Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
  • - Hygienic, tidy and well organised
  • - Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties

  • - The role is about supporting a young person with complex needs to have a fulfilling and meaningful day, helping him to make the most of his abilities and interests and adapting your approach to what he is able to manage on any given day.
  • - This includes personal care, supporting his complex health needs, getting out and about in the community and planning and facilitating activities at home and elsewhere.
  • - You will always work as part of a 2:1 team, both in the family home and out in the community. Full training will be provided.
We are looking for someone who:
  • - Has experience supporting children or adults with complex needs.
  • - Is proactive, energetic and has plenty of get-up-and-go.
  • - Is patient, observant and able to adapt to changing needs.
  • - Is caring, reliable and a good team player.
  • - Is willing to get stuck in and use their initiative.
  • - Holds a full UK driving licence and is confident and willing to drive a wheelchair-accessible vehicle.
Additional requirements

Non-smoker due to medical reasons, Vulnerable to the risk of infection and disease transmission
