Encompassborders is seeking a warm Personal Assistant to support an elderly gentleman in a rural area outside St Boswells every Sunday. The role focuses on personal care, companionship and helping with daily routines in a patient, non-pressured environment.

Tasks include morning getting up, meals, mobility support using an Arjo Sara Stedy, light housekeeping, and providing company throughout the day. PVG membership and references are required; driving is preferred due to the rural location.

Responsibilities

Personal Assistant - Sunday Support

I am an elderly gentleman living in a rural area outside St Boswells, and I am looking for a friendly, bubbly and caring Personal Assistant to support me every Sunday.

I had a stroke which has affected my mobility and speech, and I am non-verbal. Although I cannot communicate through speech, I enjoy having company and would really value someone who is patient, friendly and happy to spend time with me.

The role involves helping me with my morning routine, preparing meals and supporting me with breakfast, lunchtime and teatime, as well as providing companionship throughout the day.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

• Supporting me to get up in the morning and get washed and dressed.
• Supporting me with my mobility and using my Arjo Sara Stedy.
• Helping with toileting and my commode, including emptying and cleaning it when needed.
• Supporting me with my catheter.
• Preparing and serving breakfast, lunch and tea.
• Helping and encouraging me to eat and providing feeding support where needed.
• Spending time with me and providing companionship throughout the day.
• Being patient and attentive to my needs and finding ways to communicate with me.
• Helping to keep my surroundings clean and tidy following personal care and meals.

Person Specification

• Bubbly, friendly and approachable.
• Caring, patient and understanding.
• Comfortable supporting someone who is non-verbal.
• Happy to provide both personal care and companionship.
• Reliable and committed to working every Sunday.
• Ideally a driver due to my rural location.
• Experience with moving and handling and using an Arjo Sara Stedy would be desirable.
• However, if you are the right person for me and are willing to learn, I would be happy to consider you without previous experience.
• Willing to provide additional cover for annual leave and sickness when required.

Terms

• £14.05 per hour
• Every Sunday, 9.00am - 6.00pm
• Additional hours to cover annual leave and sickness when required
• 30p per mile
• 5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata
• 6-month probationary period
• PVG membership and references will be required
