Job summary

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Registered Nurse or ODP to join the Pre‑Assessment Team at LGI and St James hospitals in Leeds. You will assess patients before surgery, identify risks, and coordinate investigations to ensure safe surgical pathways.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will support patients through education, preparation and care throughout their surgical journey, delivering high‑quality, compassionate care.

Qualifications

  • Current registration on the NMC register.
  • Experience in acute hospital or surgical care settings.
  • Excellent communication and patient assessment skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Desirable: previous pre-assessment experience.
  • Venipuncture and ECG competency.
  • Knowledge of elective surgical pathways.
  • Professional conduct and time management.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurse or ODP to join our Pre‑Assessment Team. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring patients are appropriately assessed and prepared for elective surgery, delivering high‑quality patient‑centred care within a multidisciplinary environment. There are several roles available within pre assessment at both LGI and St James hospitals., The Pre-Assessment Practitioner will be responsible for assessing patients prior to surgery, identifying clinical risks, completing health assessments, and coordinating investigations required for safe surgical pathways. What you will bring to the role
  • To provide and be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised programmes of care.
  • To deliver care without supervision.
  • To take charge of the ward or department as necessary in the absence of the Sister or Charge Nurse.
  • To participate in the in-service training, preceptorship and mentorship of junior staff, post basic learners and students.
  • To take responsibility as the prime care provider for a group of patients.
  • To promote confidence in our commitment to provide excellent compassionate patient care.

Requirements

Has current registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register Experience Essential Experience in acute hospital or surgical care settings. Excellent communication and patient assessment skills. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Experience Desirable Previous pre-assessment experience. Venepuncture and ECG competency. Knowledge of elective surgical pathways. Skills and Behaviours Essential Ability to act professionally at all times. Effective communication skills. Effective numeracy skills e.g. accurate drug calculations. Ability to organise self and others.
