Job Overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our expanding and innovative Perioperative care team at UHS. The post holder will work within the Perioperative care service, helping to ensure that patients are fully optimised prior to surgery to improve their experience, reduce perioperative risks and contribute to reducing elective surgery waiting times.

The Perioperative care service at UHS comprises of surgical Pre-Assessment, the Perioperative anaemia service, Cardio-pulmonary exercise testing, Prehabilitation, fit for surgery school and a Shared decision making service. We are also expanding our current early screening programme to ensure appropriate referral of patients to the new Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre. Early Screening will increase both the number of patients receiving a perioperative risk screening and the number of patients receiving optimisation prior to surgery, providing benefits to the patients and the trust.

Currently the focus of this role will be to cover the Pre-Assessment service with the view to work at both Southampton and Lymington (once you are trained and competent to work independently).

UHS offers fantastic training and development giving you the best possible opportunities to achieve the career you want. Development of our staff is central to the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care. We can offer opportunities to develop within a supportive environment, and our staff survey results reflect our commitment to facilitate your career progression.

Working for our organisation

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHS we’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have previous experience working within perioperative care as an autonomous Nurse Practitioner. The Perioperative care team at UHS is extremely innovative and always strives to provide the best possible care to patients. If you feel that you are dedicated to continuous learning, improving and innovating then this role is for you! You will join a friendly and enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team who pride themselves in delivering patient centred care.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, flexible individual who is confident, able to multi-task effectively, prioritise workload, be a good team worker, and motivated in their learning and development. Ability to travel between sites is essential.
