Job description

Job Description: Perinatal Pelvic Health Midwife

Clinical Responsibilities:

  1. Independently manage a caseload of patients with pelvic health conditions, including assessments, treatment planning, and management, following appropriate training and competence.
  2. Perform vaginal and anorectal examinations competently and prescribe individualized pelvic floor muscle training programs.
  3. Specialize in the management of perineal wounds and contribute to midwifery training programs on wound management.
  4. Implement the National patient self-assessment questionnaire tool (PPHSAQ) for pelvic health dysfunction in the antenatal pathway.
  5. Contribute to staff training and stay updated with current research and clinical developments.
  6. Participate in quality improvement projects and communicate findings to the team.

Professional Development:

  1. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of research and clinical guidelines in pelvic health.
  2. Support data collection for research and audits, and implement necessary changes.

Managerial and Service Development:

  1. Support the development of the ASPH Perinatal Pelvic Health Service.
  2. Act as a resource for midwives and physiotherapists in pelvic health.
  3. Collaborate with healthcare professionals and service users to design and evaluate the pelvic health service.
  4. Promote best practices for intrapartum injury mitigation and maintain relevant tracking tools.
  5. Support staff training on pelvic health self-assessment and PFMT adherence.

Communication and Engagement:

  1. Maintain effective communication within the multidisciplinary team and with stakeholders.
  2. Engage with maternity and community stakeholders to promote the service.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain professional knowledge and competence per NMC standards.
  2. Provide leadership and motivate team members.
  3. Liaise with professional bodies and adhere to trust policies and standards.
