Job description

If you are seeking a new challenge and wish to work in an award-winning, well-supported, friendly, dynamic, culturally astute, and inclusive environment that prioritizes women and birthing people at the center of high standards of care, we invite you to join us. Our recent CQC report rates us as 'Good' and has awarded us 'Outstanding' for leadership, maintaining this rating since 2017. We are looking for a dedicated midwife with significant post-registration experience to lead on pelvic health within our trust.

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic midwife to lead the pelvic health initiative within the trust. You will be at the forefront of implementing the perinatal pelvic health service, collaborating with the South East London Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS) and NHS England. Your role will involve promoting and educating staff—midwives and obstetricians alike—on pelvic health, ensuring they are trained to support women throughout pregnancy, labor, and postnatal periods. You will also play a key role in establishing joint physiotherapy and midwifery pelvic health clinics.

This is a great time to join our team! You will build working relationships with multidisciplinary teams and be part of our supportive midwifery team across both sites. There will be numerous learning opportunities, not only to develop new midwifery skills but also to be involved in a service that aims to enhance patient experience.

The role involves championing pelvic health and promoting high-quality, obstetric-led interventions to reduce anal sphincter injuries and other pelvic health issues among childbearing women. Responsibilities include education, training, and auditing to ensure:

  • Pelvic health is promoted during pregnancy and postpartum.
  • Evidence-based information on pelvic health is co-produced and accessible in various formats.
  • All maternity and primary care staff receive basic training on prevention, recognition, and treatment of pelvic health issues.
  • Women have timely access to NICE-recommended treatments for pelvic health issues.
  • Coordination exists between pelvic health services and community services, including sexual and mental health services.
  • Care is personalized and consistent across SE London, supported by clear pathways to reduce unwarranted variation.
  • Key performance indicators for the PPHS are met and reported to NHS England.

The responsibilities of the Pelvic Health Specialist Midwife will evolve over time beyond these priorities. Our people are our greatest asset. When staff feel supported and happy, this positivity benefits our patients. We are committed to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), with initiatives such as staff networks, leadership development, and programs aimed at improving representation and access for all staff, including those with disabilities, from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ individuals, and women.

The purpose of this role is to lead and support the implementation of the perinatal pelvic health service, developed in collaboration with the SE London LMNS and NHS England, aligning with the NHS Long Term Plan to improve access to postnatal physiotherapy services. The goal is that all women receive education and advice on pelvic health and access physiotherapy services postpartum.

The post holder will champion pelvic health, promoting midwifery and obstetric interventions to reduce injuries and health issues among childbearing women. For further details, please refer to the Job Description.
