Job summary

United Infrastructure is seeking a People Business Partner to work with senior leaders, shaping people practices and talent strategies across the business. Based at Connaught House, Wakefield, with travel to sites, you will lead TUPE activity, skill planning and change initiatives while maintaining high standards of confidentiality and stakeholder collaboration.

You will combine knowledge of UK employment law with proven HR generalist experience to guide restructures, succession and performance

Qualifications

  • CIPD Level 7 or proven HR experience at Business Partner level, including generalist HR.
  • Solid grasp of current UK employment law and ability to apply it to employee relations cases.
  • Knowledge and experience of TUPE, settlement negotiation and managing redundancy campaigns.
  • Ability to challenge in a robust yet constructive manner, exercising diplomacy and tact where required.
  • Superb problem‑solving skills.
  • Good understanding of HR disciplines including diversity and inclusion, performance management, compensation and benefits, talent management, and employee and union relations.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to develop good work relationships across the business.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and prioritise workloads effectively.
  • Strong data interpretation skills and attention to detail.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted partner to the pillar Managing Director and Senior Leadership team on people practices and employee issues.
  • Lead TUPE consultations and transfers ensuring legal compliance and minimized risk.
  • Partner with leaders to identify current and future skill requirements aligned with strategy.
  • Use data-driven insights to guide talent development, succession planning, and workforce planning.
  • Provide guidance on restructures and succession planning.
  • Develop people solutions to help the business deliver its strategy.
  • Act as local people expertise for specialist teams implementing new approaches.
  • Ensure employees have skills and resources to achieve objectives.
  • Develop plans for recruitment, training, restructuring and succession and support staff in implementation.
  • Coach line managers to motivate employees and lead effectively.
  • Analyze HR metrics and compare results to KPIs.
  • Resolve complex employee relations issues and address grievances.
  • Provide leadership on change management and EDI agenda.
  • Assist with training roll-out specific to people practices.
  • Provide guidance on United Infrastructure people policies.

Job description

United Infrastructure is a dynamic business delivering critical infrastructure projects in the utility and social infrastructure sectors. Our Water Infrastructure business is looking to recruit a People Business Partner to work closely with business leaders and line managers to build capabilities, plan and manage talent, and develop approaches that achieve shared organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a trusted partner to the pillar Managing Director and Senior Leadership team to provide guidance on people practices and employee-related issues.
  • Lead and coordinate TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment) consultations and transfers, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and minimizing risk.
  • Partner with business leaders to identify current and future skill requirements aligned with business strategy.
  • Use data-driven insights to guide talent development, succession planning, and workforce planning.
  • Provide guidance on people practices such as restructures and succession planning.
  • Bring people expertise and develop solutions to help the business area deliver its strategy.
  • Act as a local point of people expertise for specialist teams implementing new people approaches.
  • Work with pillar management teams to ensure employees have the skills and resources needed to achieve their objectives.
  • Develop plans for recruitment, training, restructuring, and succession and support relevant staff to implement them.
  • Coaching line managers on ways to motivate their employees and lead more effectively.
  • Analyse human resource metrics and compare results to key performance indicators.
  • Resolve complex employee relations issues and address grievances in consultation.
  • Provide leadership and guidance on the people aspects of change management.
  • Champion the EDI agenda.
  • Assist with the roll-out of training specific to people practices.
  • Provide guidance to the pillar on United Infrastructure people policies.

The role is based in Connaught House, Wakefield, with regular travel to other sites required.
