Job summary

The Practice in Oxford is seeking a People and Practice Manager to lead HR and patient-focused operations in a busy NHS general practice. You will manage HR processes for ~80 staff, oversee recruitment, onboarding, payroll support, and employee development, while driving service improvements and high standards of care.

Working with senior leadership, you will shape practice strategy, handle patient communications and complaints, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide effective leadership

Qualifications

  • CIPD Level 3 or working towards it.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and full employee lifecycle management.
  • Experience managing HR processes, payroll, and patient communication.

Responsibilities

  • Manage HR processes for ~80 staff including recruitment, onboarding and development.
  • Handle patient correspondence, complaints and service improvements.
  • Support payroll processing and ensure compliance with employment law and NHS policies.
  • Contribute to practice strategy with senior leadership (Operations Manager and Practice Manager).

People and Practice Manager Responsibilities
  • Managing all HR processes, including recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing employee development to support a team of approximately 80 staff members.
  • Handling patient correspondence, complaints, and service improvement initiatives to enhance patient satisfaction and experience.
  • Supporting payroll processing and ensuring compliance with employment law and NHS policies.
  • Contributing to the development of practice strategies alongside senior leadership, including the Operations Manager and Practice Manager.
  • Handling high-level communication with patients and external stakeholders to maintain standards of care and service.
  • Assisting with day-to-day operational issues and providing leadership within the practice.
  • Ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards in all HR and patient-facing activities.
People and Practice Manager Rewards
  • Salary between £30 and £37,500, depending on experience.

People and Practice Manager Experience Essentials
  • CIPD Level 3 or working towards it.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and full employee lifecycle management.
  • Proven experience managing HR processes, payroll, and patient communication.
  • Experience within a GP practice and exposure to medical regulations is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of handling patient correspondence and complaints effectively.
  • Ability to contribute to practice strategy at a senior level.
  • Proficiency in digital health tools, ideally EMIS, and experience working within regulated healthcare environments.
Location

Based in Oxford, this full-time role offers a hybrid of on-site working and flexible arrangements, with easy access via public transport and parking facilities nearby. One site has parking whilst the other does not.
