Job description

People and Culture Manager (Maternity Cover)

At Tropic, people are at the heart of everything we do – and that starts with our HQ team. As our business continues to grow and evolve, so does the breadth and pace of our People & Culture function. We’re looking for an experienced People & Culture Manager (Maternity Cover) to join our established P&C team and help us continue to deliver a brilliant experience for our colleagues and managers.

Reporting to the Head of People & Culture and working closely alongside our existing People & Culture Manager and wider team, you’ll share responsibility across a broad and varied P&C remit. You’ll have the autonomy to take the lead in agreed areas, while collaborating across the team on our wider people priorities.

This is a hands-on role with plenty of variety. You might be coaching a manager through a complex colleague matter one day, supporting recruitment or wellbeing the next, and contributing to a wider culture or P&C project in between.

We’re looking for someone who is comfortable getting stuck into the day-to-day, while also seeing the bigger picture – someone who builds trusted relationships, brings sound judgement and isn’t afraid to take ownership when needed.

If you enjoy working collaboratively, solving problems and making a genuine difference to people’s experience at work, you’ll feel right at home here.

Key responsibilities
People & Culture Operations
  • Share ownership of the day-to-day running of People & Culture operations, ensuring a seamless and positive colleague experience
  • Confidently use our HR system (Employment Hero), ensuring data accuracy, compliance and effective reporting (including ATS management)
  • Be a trusted point of contact for P&C queries, supporting colleagues and managers across the business
  • Support and contribute to engagement initiatives, helping to ensure actions are delivered and embedded, including keeping our Great Place to Work surveys on track
Leadership & Strategic Support
  • Work closely with the Head of People & Culture and fellow P&C Manager to deliver the team’s priorities and provide consistent support across the function
  • Provide experienced support on complex people matters, working with the Head of P&C and wider team where appropriate
  • Support on a wide range of People & Culture priorities, balancing day-to-day delivery with broader, strategic initiatives
Colleague Relations
  • Act as a trusted advisor to managers and colleagues across a wide range of colleague relations matters, providing confident and practical guidance
  • Lead and chair investigations, disciplinary processes and hearings with confidence and care
  • Take ownership of ER cases end-to-end, using the case tracker to ensure consistency, fairness and thorough documentation
  • Support the wider P&C team on ER cases, building their confidence and capability over time
  • Work with external HR consultants to ensure policies, processes and the company handbook remain up to date and compliant
Recruitment
  • Manage assigned vacancies end-to-end, ensuring a smooth and positive candidate experience
  • Screen CVs, coordinate and conduct interviews
  • Partner with hiring managers to understand hiring needs and priorities
  • Champion and help shape Tropic’s employer brand, ensuring how we present ourselves as an employer authentically reflects our culture and colleague experience
  • Maintain and enhance our employer presence across LinkedIn, Glassdoor, recruitment platforms and the careers section of the Tropic website, keeping content engaging, relevant and up to date
  • Provide oversight and support across recruitment administration, ensuring documentation is accurate, consistent and completed on time
  • Ensure recruitment data is accurate and up to date, supporting clear reporting across the business
  • Play an active role in championing wellbeing across HQ, taking ownership of welfare cases, return-to-work processes and flexible working requests as appropriate
  • Work with the wider P&C team to deliver wellbeing, recognition and engagement initiatives, including communications across our internal platforms
  • Support company-wide events and internal engagement
  • Contribute to reward, recognition and benefits that make Tropic a great place to work
  • Develop and deliver P&C training for colleagues and managers, aligned with business needs and best practice
  • Support the evolution of P&C policies and the annual handbook review
  • Maintain clear, accurate and up-to-date processes and work instructions
  • Contribute to People & Culture projects that enhance how we work and grow
What We’re Looking For
  • A strong generalist People & Culture / HR experience, ideally gained within a fast-paced environment
  • Strong knowledge of colleague relations and UK employment law, with confidence handling a range of ER cases end-to-end
  • The ability to remain professional, objective and neutral, especially when handling sensitive situations
  • An approachable and empathetic communicator who builds trusted relationships across all levels of the business
  • Proactive, organised and solutions-focused, with the confidence to take ownership and manage competing priorities
  • Sound judgement and a pragmatic approach, with the ability to balance colleague experience with the needs of the business
  • Confident advising and influencing managers, providing clear, practical guidance
  • Experience working with HR systems and ATS (Employment Hero experience is a plus!)
  • An understanding of employer brand and how to bring workplace culture to life across recruitment and digital channels
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to share responsibility while confidently taking ownership of agreed areas
