Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent.
  • Studying towards an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in technology/digital subject or related field and able to undertake a 12‑month internship or be a recent graduate.
  • Experience of supporting projects, events or group activities.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload.
  • Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Job description

We're looking for a Digital Change Support Intern to join our People & Culture Services Team.

This is a unique opportunity to gain hands‑on experience supporting digital transformation projects that improve the way People & Culture services are delivered across the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).

This role would suit someone who is enthusiastic, curious and eager to learn, with an interest in how technology can improve the way people work and access services. You'll enjoy working collaboratively, be confident using digital tools and be keen to develop your skills while contributing to projects that make a real difference across the People & Culture function. Whether you're interested in digital transformation, HR, project delivery or organisational development, this internship will provide an excellent foundation for your future career.

As part of the WMCA Year Intern Programme, you'll work on meaningful projects while developing the professional skills and experience needed to bridge the gap between academic study and employment. You'll also benefit from mentoring, structured learning and regular support throughout your placement.

This opportunity is open to penultimate‑year university students able to commit to a 12‑month internship, as well as recent graduates looking to build their skills and gain valuable workplace experience.

What you'll be doing

You’ll support a variety of digital projects across the People & Culture function, including:

  • Supporting the delivery of digital transformation initiatives across People & Culture.
  • Designing and building engaging, accessible intranet pages for the new People Hub on the WMCA Intranet using Microsoft Sharepoint.
  • Assisting with research and analysis to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Providing administrative support for projects, meetings, workshops and events.
  • Learning how digital tools, systems and technology support modern People & Culture services.
  • Taking part in training, mentoring and networking opportunities throughout the internship.
  • Working collaboratively while demonstrating professionalism, integrity and excellent customer service.
Essential Criteria

You’ll have:

  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above), or equivalent.
  • Be currently studying towards an undergraduate or postgraduate degree (in technology/digital subject or related field) and able to undertake a 12‑month internship or be a recent graduate.
  • Experience of supporting projects, events or group activities.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise your workload.
  • Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Location

The location for this role Summer Lane, Birmingham with at least 2 days a week spent in the office.

We advertise salary ranges, with new appointments typically starting at the lowest salary point. In exceptional cases, the salary point may be adjusted to secure the best candidate. This approach allows for potential year‑on‑year salary increases, offering progression and appropriate rewards to employees.
