Job summary

The Tank Museum is seeking a committed People Administrator to deliver a broad HR service on-site. You will advise managers, employees and volunteers, handle onboarding and recruitment, and support payroll processes, while ensuring accurate records and compliance.

You will coordinate cycles of recruitment, onboarding, training, and probation, with a focus on confidentiality and professional support across the workforce and volunteers. This role requires on-site work.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a generalist HR role.
  • Ability to advise managers, employees and volunteers.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Good MS Word and Excel skills.
  • CIPD Level 3 certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a professional and responsive HR service to managers, employees and volunteers across the museum.
  • Act as first point of contact for day-to-day people queries and guidance on policies and employment matters.
  • Assist in the monthly payroll process.
  • Support managers throughout the employee lifecycle including recruitment, onboarding, probation, performance discussions and offboarding.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities including vacancies, candidate communication, onboarding and pre-employment checks.
  • Administer onboarding for new employees and volunteers with documentation, systems and inductions.
  • Maintain accurate employee and volunteer records.
  • Support employee relations matters and maintain notes and records.
  • Provide pastoral support and guidance to apprentices.
  • Coordinate work experience placements with schools and internal departments.
  • Maintain training records.

Job description

As a trusted HR generalist, the People Administrator will provide advice and guidance across a broad range of people matters while ensuring the effective administration of key people processes and activities. This includes supporting recruitment and onboarding, employee and volunteer engagement, learning and development, performance management, wellbeing, employee relations, reward, and payroll.

Key Accountabilities
  • To provide a professional and responsive HR service to managers, employees and volunteers across the museum.
  • Act as first point of contact for day-to-day people queries, providing advice and guidance on policies, procedures, and employment related matters, escalating more complex issues when required.
  • Assist in the monthly payroll process.
  • Support managers throughout the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, probation management, performance discussions, development and offboarding.
  • Co-ordinate recruitment activities, including setting up vacancies, managing candidate communication, on-boarding and supporting pre-employment checks.
  • Administer the onboarding process for new employees and volunteers, ensuring all documentation, systems and induction activities are completed.
  • Maintain accurate employee and volunteer records.
  • Support the administration of employee relations matters, including preparing letters, arranging meetings, maintaining records and taking accurate notes where required.
  • Provide pastoral support and guidance to apprentices across the museum.
  • Co-ordinate work experience placements, including communicating with students, schools and internal departments.
  • Maintain accurate training records.
Essential
What you will bring:
  • CIPD Level 3.
  • Experience of working in a generalist HR role.
  • Experience providing advice, guidance or support to managers, employees, volunteers.
  • The ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Experience of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Good Microsoft word and excel skills.
Desirable
  • Experience supporting employee relation processes such as absence, disciplinary, grievance or performance matters.
  • Experience of Sage 50 payroll.
  • Experience of recruitment and onboarding activities.
  • The ability to manage HR databases.

Due to the nature of this role you will be required to work on-site. Hybrid or home workers will not be considered.
