Job summary

Platform One provides infrastructure to the UK wealth sector, including pensions and SIPP/SSAS products. We seek an experienced pensions technical professional moving into risk and compliance to influence governance and strategy across our pension offerings.

You’ll act as internal expert on pension regulation, tax and scheme requirements, support HMRC reporting, and contribute to governance at the board level with MI and risk insights.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of pension legislation, regulation, taxation and industry practice.
• Strong understanding of FCA, HMRC and trustee obligations.
• Experience assessing conduct, regulatory and operational risk in pensions.

Responsibilities

• Act as internal expert on pension technical matters (drawdown, death benefits, transfers).
• Be primary contact for HMRC on pension matters and oversee HMRC reporting.
• Support investigations into complex pension complaints with root cause analysis.
• Lead Consumer Duty product and service reviews, including customer journeys and outcome testing.
• Carry out horizon scanning and impact assessments on changes to pension legislation and FCA/HMRC requirements.
• Review and approve pension financial promotions, scheme literature and communications.
• Own pension technical risk assessments and produce MI for the Board and committees.
• Carry out thematic reviews as part of Compliance Monitoring Programme.
• Be a key contact for pension business partners and support due diligence on service providers.
• Design and deliver pension technical training across the business.

Job description

Platform One provides infrastructure to the UK wealth sector: custody, brokerage, pensions and technology for IFAs, wealth managers, investment managers and family offices. We act as Scheme Operator, Administrator and Trustee for our SIPP and SSAS products, which we offer through intermediaries and business partners. Our team works across the UK and the Philippines.

The role

This role sits in our second line compliance function and reports to the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer (SMF16). You’ll be the firm’s go-to expert on pension legislation, regulation and tax across our SIPP and SSAS business. You’ll also give the business independent, well-informed challenge on how our pension products work and what outcomes they deliver for customers. It suits an experienced pensions technical professional who wants to move into risk and compliance and have real influence on governance and strategy.

What you’ll do

• Act as our internal expert on pension technical matters, including drawdown, death benefits, pension sharing orders, excess contributions, genuine errors, relief at source, transfers and registered scheme requirements
• Be the primary contact for HMRC on pension matters and oversee HMRC reporting and submissions
• Support investigations into complex pension complaints, with root cause analysis and trend reporting
• Lead Consumer Duty product and service reviews, covering target market, customer journeys, communications and outcome testing
• Carry out horizon scanning and impact assessments on changes to pension legislation and to FCA and HMRC requirements, and track how they’re implemented
• Review and approve pension financial promotions, scheme literature and customer communications
• Own pension technical risk assessments and produce MI for the Board, the Risk Management Committee, the Product Governance Committee, the Business Acceptance Committee and Consumer Duty forums
• Carry out thematic reviews as part of the Compliance Monitoring Programme
• Be a key contact for pension business partners and support due diligence on service providers
• Design and deliver pension technical training across the business

What we’re looking for

• Deep knowledge of pension legislation, regulation, taxation and industry practice, ideally gained in a SIPP or SSAS environment
• A strong understanding of FCA, HMRC and trustee obligations
• Experience assessing conduct, regulatory and operational risk in pensions
• The confidence to challenge constructively, and the judgement to know when to escalate
• Clear communication for both technical and non-technical audiences, including Board-level reporting
• High standards of accuracy, and comfort working on your own initiative as well as in a team
