The Pensions Implementation Developer is responsible for the configuration and onboarding of new pension schemes onto Trafalgar House administration systems.
The role has a strong focus on SQL-based pensions system implementation, including scheme configuration, data transformation, data mapping, calculations, interfaces, reporting and migration activity.
Working closely with Business Analysts, pension administration teams and other technical specialists, the postholder will translate scheme requirements and implementation specifications into robust, tested system solutions.
Experience of IntelliPen would be highly desirable. However, candidates with strong SQL implementation experience on other pensions administration platforms will also be considered.
Key responsibilities
Pensions system implementation
- Onboard and configure new client pension schemes onto pensions administration platforms.
- Develop and maintain SQL-based implementation components including queries, stored procedures, views, data conversion routines and validation scripts.
- Configure scheme-specific functionality including workflows, calculations, data structures, interfaces, extracts, reports and automated processes.
- Support the onboarding of new pension schemes and clients, from initial analysis through configuration, testing, migration and go-live.
- Where applicable, configure and develop solutions within IntelliPen, including data feeds using IntelliFeed and associated SQL components.
- Understand the impact of configuration and data changes across the wider pensions administration environment.
- Work with Project Managers to ensure key delivery deadlines are met.
Data migration and integration
- Analyse source pension administration data and map it into target system structures.
- Develop SQL routines for data extraction, transformation, cleansing, validation and loading.
- Support data migration cycles including trial conversions, reconciliations and final production migrations.
- Investigate and resolve data quality, mapping and reconciliation issues.
- Develop and support interfaces between pensions administration systems and third-party or internal applications.
- Produce clear data mapping, transformation and technical implementation documentation.
- Write secure, maintainable and efficient SQL, including complex SELECT and UPDATE statements, stored procedures, functions and views.
- Interrogate large pensions datasets to identify data issues, implementation defects and configuration problems.
- Develop repeatable scripts and utilities to support implementation, migration, reconciliation and testing activities.
- Ensure database changes are controlled, documented, peer reviewed where appropriate and capable of being deployed safely between environments.
Testing and implementation assurance
- Support system, integration, migration and user acceptance testing.
- Develop SQL-based validation and reconciliation routines to demonstrate that data has been migrated and configured correctly.
- Investigate defects identified during implementation and testing, determining whether they relate to data, configuration, system functionality or requirements.
- Support test-loadsand readiness activities prior to go-live.
- Provide technical support during implementation and post-go-live stabilisation.
- Ensure technical solutions meet agreed security, quality, architectural and operational standards.
Delivery and stakeholder collaboration
- Work closely with Business Analysts and Data Analysts to translate pensions administration requirements into technical implementation tasks.
- Collaborate with pension administrators and subject matter experts to understand scheme requirements and administration processes.
- Provide technical input into implementation planning, estimation and solution design.
- Clearly communicate technical issues, dependencies and implementation risks.
- Maintain accurate documentation and progress reporting throughout the implementation lifecycle.
- Support effective handover of implemented schemes into BAU support and administration teams.
- Identify opportunities to standardise and automate scheme implementation activities.
- Develop reusable SQL scripts, templates and implementation components where appropriate.
- Improve data migration, reconciliation and validation processes.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of implementation standards, documentation and technical controls.
- Hands‑on experience implementing or configuring a pensions administration platform.
- Strong commercial SQL Server development experience within a pensions implementation, configuration or migration environment.
- Demonstrable experience using SQL to support the implementation or configuration of pension schemes.
- Strong SQL skills including complex queries, joins, data manipulation, stored procedures, views and data validation.
- Experience of pensions data migration, conversion, transformation or reconciliation.
- Good understanding of relational database structures and data dependencies.
- Experience translating business, pension scheme or functional requirements into technical solutions.
- Experience supporting testing and resolving defects during pensions system implementations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- High level of accuracy when working with complex pension scheme and member data.
- Ability to manage multiple implementation activities and priorities.
- Able to work independently while collaborating effectively with Business Analysts, developers, administrators and other stakeholders.
