Job summary

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for two full-time Consultant positions in Paediatric Inherited Metabolic Disease (IMD) at the Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine, St Mary's Hospital, Manchester. The posts support a regional network delivering specialist IMD services across Manchester, Liverpool, Bradford and Newcastle.

Responsibilities

• Recognise, assess and manage the full range of inherited metabolic emergencies.
• Counsel families following a diagnosis of an IMD identified through newborn screening.
• Explain IMD inheritance patterns across diverse cultural contexts.
• Liaise with hospital and community specialist teams (dietitians, pharmacists, nurses, laboratory scientists).
• Participate in MDTs for general metabolic and lysosomal storage disease patients.
• Deliver face-to-face and virtual clinics, including outreach.
• Hot Week and out-of-hours on-call responsibilities, providing acute metabolic advice across the Northwest.
