Job summary

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) invites applications for a Research Fellow (PDRA) to lead independent or collaborative projects in maritime decarbonisation. This 24-month fixed-term appointment is part of the MaLaMi programme, hosted by LOOM, with opportunities to apply AI, data science, and digitalisation to real-world transport challenges.

The role requires a good honours degree and a PhD (or equivalent) in relevant fields, plus strong quantitative skills and programming proficiency.

Qualifications

Good honours degree and a PhD (or equivalent) in transport, logistics, engineering, operations research, data science or a relevant discipline.
Strong quantitative research and data-analysis capabilities are required.
Experience with research projects related to maritime decarbonisation, AI or digitalisation is preferred.

Responsibilities

Contribute to scoping, feasibility assessment and proof-of-concept development for maritime and last-mile decarbonisation projects.
Develop and apply quantitative and data-driven models, including modelling, simulation, optimisation and machine learning.
Assist in the development, testing and evaluation of analytical tools, prototypes and demonstrators in collaboration with researchers and external partners.
