Job summary

Connect2Hackney is seeking experienced PCV SEND drivers to provide safe, reliable transport for children and adults with SEND across the London Borough of Hackney.

You will operate council fleet vehicles, perform safety checks, and support passengers with diverse needs while upholding safeguarding and service standards. Split shifts typically cover morning and afternoon routes.

Experience with SEND transport and a proactive, customer‑focused approach are essential.

Qualifications

• Valid CPC qualification.
• Category D (PCV) entitlement.
• Digital tachograph card is required.
• Enhanced DBS (Child and/or Adult) - Update Service preferred.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport SEND passengers to and from schools, colleges, and care settings.
• Operate PCV vehicles in line with DVSA regulations and council policies.
• Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and report defects promptly.
• Support passengers with additional needs in a calm, professional manner.
• Work alongside SEND Passenger Assistants where assigned.
• Maintain journey logs and incident reports.
• Uphold safeguarding, health & safety, and equality standards.

Role Overview

We are seeking experienced PCV SEND Drivers to provide safe, reliable, and supportive transport for children and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across the London Borough of Hackney.

Drivers will be responsible for operating council fleet vehicles, ensuring passengers are transported safely and with dignity, while adhering to all safeguarding, road safety, and service standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely transport SEND passengers to and from schools, colleges, and care settings
• Operate PCV vehicles in line with DVSA regulations and council policies
• Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and report defects promptly
• Support passengers with additional needs in a calm, professional manner
• Work effectively alongside SEND Passenger Assistants (where assigned)
• Maintain accurate records, including journey logs and incident reports
• Uphold safeguarding, health & safety, and equality standards at all times

Essential Requirements

• Full UK driving licence with Category D (PCV) entitlement
• Valid CPC qualification
• Valid digital tachograph card
• Enhanced DBS (Child and/or Adult Workforce) - registered on the Update Service preferred
• Previous experience driving PCV vehicles, ideally within SEND or care transport
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
• Good communication and customer‑focused approach
• Ability to work split shifts (typically morning and afternoon routes)
