Greater Preston Primary Care Network, covering nine GP practices across Preston, is recruiting a permanent part-time phlebotomist for 25 hours a week. The post centres on blood sample collection, from venepuncture to labelling and dispatch to laboratories, delivered across the network's practices. Work is split into five-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, at whichever practice the service needs, so reliable travel between sites is essential. Completed venepuncture training with evidence of practical competency is the key requirement.

- Carry out venepuncture safely and competently, in line with training, clinical guidelines and local procedures
- Label samples accurately in the correct containers using ICE or the relevant pathology requesting system
- Record sample collection in the patient's clinical record and keep patient records accurate and confidential
- Store samples appropriately and dispatch them to the relevant laboratories promptly
- Report collection issues and anomalies to senior staff, and **escalate** difficult blood-taking situations and significant patient concerns to the clinical team
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures, including safe handling and disposal of clinical waste and sharps
- Maintain stock of blood-taking equipment and keep clinical areas clean, safe and prepared
- Take blood pressure readings, carry out basic health assessments and observations, and **escalate** abnormal findings to a clinician
