Job summary

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Payroll Team Leader (Band 5) to lead a payroll team in Derby. Based in Pride Park, you will oversee monthly and weekly payrolls, manage data imports to ESR, and generate payroll reports.

You will have NHS payroll experience and strong numerical/analytical skills, with supervision responsibilities and a focus on meeting strict deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Academic qualifications to A level standard with good GCSE passes in Mathematics and English Language.
  • Graduate Diploma in payroll/pensions and/or HND/HNC qualification in business administration.
  • Significant NHS payroll and pensions experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day payroll processing for monthly and weekly cycles.
  • Produce pre, post and ad hoc payroll reports; assist with balancing and reconciliations.
  • Train and mentor payroll team members; ensure deadlines are met.
  • Occasional work across Derbyshire as required.

Job overview

There is no better time to join our payroll division, as we have recently expanded our services and growing our team. We are looking for an experienced individual to join us as a Payroll Team Leader, who can bring a wealth of payroll experience to join our team of 31 exceptional payroll colleagues. We are based at the Johnson Building on Pride Park, Derby

The Pay & Pensions Department provides the in-house Payroll and Pension facility for University Hospitals of Derby & Burton, and 3 other local NHS Trusts, producing around 238,000 payslips per annum, including both weekly and monthly payrolls.

We are looking for a knowledgeable individual who has a great mind for numbers, excellent analytical skills and has previous supervisor experience to manage team members and delegate workloads

Main duties of the job

As a Payroll Team Leader, you will be responsible along with five other Payroll Team Leaders for the day-to-day management of the Pay Team, processing a number of monthly and weekly payrolls, manipulating and uploading data from Excel on to our ESR systems.

Your remit will include producing pre, post and ad hoc payroll reports as well as assisting with balancing and reconciliations of payroll. You should have a pleasant telephone manner and be able to deal with difficult calls if necessary.

You will be people focused, have good organisational and time management skills to co-ordinate incoming work and assisting the Pay Team to ensure deadlines are met, providing training and mentoring other team members.

This role may require occasional working at sites across Derbyshire.
