Job summary

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Sister/Charge Nurse (Band 6) for Ward 308 at the Royal Derby Hospital. The 30-bed ward cares for vascular, urology and general surgery inpatients, both elective and emergency.

You will lead the ward team, ensuring high standards of care and driving service development. The role requires current NMC registration and post-registration experience (band 5), preferably in vascular/urology.

Qualifications

  • Must hold NMC registration.
  • Demonstrable post-registration experience; band 5 with vascular/urology preference.
  • Surgical Foundation Course or equivalent training.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day ward management and ensure high standards of nursing care.
  • Drive service development and quality improvement within the ward.
  • Collaborate with bed manager and patient flow to ensure patients receive appropriate care.
  • Provide leadership and maintain safe staffing levels across shifts.

Job overview

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Sister/Charge Nurse band 6 Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in Ward 308 at the Royal Derby Hospital.

308 is a 30 bedded ward caring for vascular and urology and general surgery inpatients . Caring for both elective and emergency patients.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated leader who wants to develop in their career. You will work alongside the existing ward team ensuring high standards of care are maintained.

The successful individual will assist the Ward Manager to provide effective and visible leadership and will be expected to drive the unit forward.

Applicants must hold a current NMC registration, and have demonstrable post registration experience with band 5 experience, preferably with vascular and urology experience.

Main duties of the job

The candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills, be dynamic and strive for excellence in all aspects of the role. They will need to act as a role model and maintain and uphold high standards of professional behaviour.

The successful applicant will take responsibility for the day to day ward environment. They will ensure that high standards of nursing care is provided and drive forward both service development and quality improvement . They will also be ensuring we promote patient safety and a positive patient experience.

We believe that all exceptional Nurses have something extra to offer our patients beyond their training and professional registration, from a kind word or a helping hand to providing a positive outlook. So, at our Trust, we want to work with people who share our values in continuously improving our patient experience.
