Job summary

Cygnet Group is seeking a Payroll Team Lead to support the end-to-end payroll process across the business, including hands-on processing to back up the team. You will review main payroll runs for accuracy and assist with HMRC communications, ensuring timely and compliant processing.

Mentor the payroll team, manage calendars, and contribute to system improvements while maintaining strong relationships with on-site teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of end-to-end payroll processes.
• Experience with HMRC submissions and tax codes.
• Ability to mentor and develop a payroll team.
• Experience maintaining payroll calendars and schedules.
• Focus on process improvements and controls.

Responsibilities

• Support end-to-end payroll cycle including hands-on processing.
• Review regular payroll runs for accuracy (1st line checks).
• Assist with HMRC communications such as tax code downloads and FPS/EPS submissions.
• Close payroll cycles and run reports; handle escalations.
• Provide cover during absence and keep up to date with payroll legislation.
