Job summary

Investigo is seeking an experienced Payroll Systems Specialist to support a payroll and systems transformation programme across multiple sites in the United Kingdom. The role combines hands-on payroll processing with helping implement new processes and systems while maintaining BAU activities.

The initial engagement is a three-month fixed-term contract with potential for extension. You will work with Finance, People teams and external providers to ensure accurate payroll outputs and successful

Job description

A growing multi-site business is looking for an experienced Payroll Systems Specialist to support a payroll and systems transformation programme.

This role will combine hands-on payroll processing with supporting the implementation of new payroll processes and systems while ensuring business-as-usual payroll activities continue smoothly.

Initially offered as a three-month fixed-term contract, there is potential for the engagement to be extended.

Responsibilities

• Support a payroll transformation programme alongside Payroll, Finance and People teams.
• Reconcile payroll outputs during system testing and parallel payroll runs.
• Investigate and resolve payroll variances, identifying root causes and recommending solutions.
• Assist with payroll systems implementation activities, testing and process improvements.
• Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), documenting outcomes and tracking issues through to resolution.
• Maintain accurate records, controls and audit documentation throughout the programme.
• Provide hands‑on payroll support where required to ensure payroll deadlines are met.
• Work closely with internal stakeholders and external providers to deliver a successful implementation.

About You

• Proven payroll experience within a complex or high-volume environment.
• Experience supporting payroll transformation, change or implementation projects.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate payroll data and reconcile discrepancies.
• Comfortable balancing project work with operational payroll responsibilities.
• Experience of payroll testing, controls and audit requirements.
• Able to work independently and proactively manage issues through to resolution.
• Confident building relationships across Finance, HR and operational stakeholders.
• Experience supporting payroll system implementations or migrations.
• Exposure to expense management or workforce management systems.
• Background within a multi-site, customer-facing or fast‑paced environment.
• Experience validating payroll outputs through parallel testing exercises.
