Job summary

TC Group, a Top 20 UK accountancy firm, is seeking a Payroll Supervisor in Steyning to lead the payroll team and support a growing client base. The role covers end-to-end payroll management, ensuring HMRC compliance and high service standards.

You will oversee a small team, contribute to onboarding new clients and projects, and liaise with HMRC and pension providers. Hybrid working and ongoing development opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a payroll role, ideally within an accountancy or bureau environment.
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including auto-enrolment, statutory payments.
• Ideally experienced using IRIS Payroll Professional or quick to learn new payroll software.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end payroll for ~50 clients on weekly, fortnightly, and monthly cycles.
• Review and approve payrolls prepared by junior staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Be the main contact for payroll queries from your portfolio and provide expert support.

In our Steyning office, we are now seeking an ambitious and experienced Payroll Supervisor to lead our payroll team and support our growing client base.

The Opportunity

As Payroll Supervisor, you will be supporting the Payroll Team Manager and you will oversee the delivery of payroll services for multiple clients across various sectors. You will manage a small team, ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, and maintain high standards of accuracy and client service. In addition, you will be involved in leading one-off projects including onboarding new clients, acquisitions and specialist questions.

What You'll Be Doing

As our Payroll Supervisor, you'll be responsible for:

• Manage the end-to-end payroll process for a portfolio of approximately 50 clients, including weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls
• Review and approve payrolls prepared by junior staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance
• Act as the main point of contact for payroll queries from your portfolio, providing expert advice and support
• Support the team with technical training and complex payroll queries as and when they arise
• Ensure timely submission of RTI returns, pension contributions, and year-end reporting (P60s, P11Ds)
• Keep up to date with changes in payroll legislation and ensure the team is informed and compliant
• Facilitate onboarding new clients and setting up payroll systems
• Liaise with HMRC and pension providers as required
• Support the Payroll Team Manager with various tasks including internal reporting, process
• Improvements, onboarding of new projects / acquisitions

What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from candidates that can demonstrate:

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a payroll role, ideally within an accountancy or bureau environment
• CIPP qualifications (or working towards) is desirable
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including auto-enrolment, statutory payments, UK payrolls with overseas employers.
• Ideally experienced using IRIS Payroll Professional or has the confidence and ability to learn new payroll software quickly
• Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
• Ability to work well under pressure with client deadlines
• Strong communication skills and a client-focused approach
• Supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
• Ambitious, driven and desire to grow with the team and the company
• A proactive and solutions-focused approach
• A commitment to delivering excellent client service
