Job summary

Nottinghamshire County Council is seeking a Payroll Services Assistant to join our Payroll Services team in a hybrid role at County Hall, West Bridgford. The post is permanent, full-time (37 hours/week) and offers extensive payroll and transactional HR training.

You will process starters/leavers, assist with contracts, handle queries, and collaborate with schools, departments and external clients, ensuring accurate payroll data and timely service delivery.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with payroll systems and IT software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of tax, national insurance and pension contributions is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Process new starters and leavers and contractual changes on monthly deadlines.
  • Assist in creating employment contracts and manage maternity administration.
  • Be the first point of contact for telephone and written inquiries.
  • Collaborate with departments, schools, academies and external clients to deliver payroll.
  • Maintain accurate payroll and HR data following business processes.

The Payroll Services department at Nottinghamshire County Council is on the lookout for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team during an exciting time of change. This is a fantastic opportunity to kickstart your payroll career! You will receive comprehensive training in all aspects of payroll and transactional HR activities. While prior payroll knowledge is a plus, it’s not essential if you bring a positive attitude and strong administrative skills.

As a Payroll Services Assistant, your key responsibilities will include:
  • Processing New Starters and Leavers: Ensure accurate and timely actioning of new starters, leavers, and contractual changes in line with monthly deadlines.
  • Contract Production: Assist in the creation of employment contracts and manage maternity administration.
  • Customer Queries: Be the first point of contact for telephone and written inquiries, providing effective and efficient responses.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with various departments, schools, academies, and external clients to deliver a seamless payroll service.
  • Data Management: Maintain accurate payroll and HR data, following prescribed business processes.
To Succeed In This Role, You Should Possess
  • Educational Background: GCSE in English and Maths at grade C or equivalent.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with payroll systems and IT software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of Payroll Processes: Understanding of tax, national insurance, and pension contributions is beneficial.
