Job summary

Castle Employment Group in Leeds is seeking a Payroll Officer to join a growing finance team. You’ll own the day-to-day payroll cycle, delivering accurate fortnightly and monthly payrolls and ensuring deadlines are consistently met.

The role blends payroll responsibility with broader finance exposure in a permanent, full-time, office-based setting. You’ll work closely with the wider finance team, maintain payroll records, handle PAYE and statutory requirements, and drive process improvements.

Qualifications

• Experience in a busy, high-volume payroll environment.
• Solid knowledge of UK payroll processes, PAYE and statutory requirements.
• Ability to manage deadlines and reconcile payroll data.
• Comfort handling confidential employee and financial information.
• Experience using Sage is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day payroll cycle from start to finish.
• Prepare and deliver fortnightly and monthly payrolls.
• Update employee pay information and manage changes.
• Check data, investigate discrepancies, and perform reconciliations.
• Ensure PAYE, statutory payments and HMRC reporting are correct and timely.
• Be the go-to contact for payroll queries and collaborate with the finance team.
• Maintain payroll controls and assist with audits and compliance.
• Identify opportunities to simplify and improve payroll processes.
